Stake a well

To locate precisely on the surface of the ground the point at which a well is to be drilled. After exploration techniques have revealed the possibility of a subsurface hydrocarbon-bearing formation, a certified and registered land surveyor drives a stake into the ground to make the spot where the well is to be drilled.
